And here's the full costume:

The odd color on the shoes and the little trapezoid part on the front of the hat are due to the reflective tape. It's a much darker blue when it's not reflecting camera flash.

I hit the jackpot at the thrift store and actually found a shiny blue hat. I masked the parts that had to stay blue, and hit it with this fantastic metallic silver spray paint. Voila!

Now to build all the lenses and lights and doodads and whirligigs...

The R2D2 corset is getting close to completion. I've learned a lot along the way, including this very important fact: droids are made of straight lines. Corsets are made of curves. This is a perilous combination. And speaking of straight lines and curves, I've started work on the hat, and lo, what look like simple rectangles turn out to be ( Read more... )

Storm trooper helmets out of milk jugs

Glowing lightsabers out of flashlights and long balloons (yes, the author is aware they look a little innuendo-y, but come on--how cool an idea is this??)

One of these will be our Christmas card photo this year--but the assembled cuteness of the whole set was too overwhelming, and I can't pick just one! Help me out?
